Bauhaus is a NZ owned and operated family business specialising in the modern and designer furniture area. It all started when Parnell local, Chris Heard was renovating his own apartment in Auckland. He realised that there was a big opportunity to help home-owners and customers looking for designer furniture in New Zealand.
At that time, there were many middle-of-the-road chain furniture stores like Harvey Norman and Freedom. And there were the very high end stores selling extremely expensive designer furniture. But what was missing was a store providing great quality, designer modern furniture with a high design factor at a reasonable price.
Many other furniture stores trying to slot into this section of the market were (and are) hindered by middle men or agencies wanting larger profits. Thats why they are unable to supply quality designer furniture product without the huge price tags.
Some hide behind their brands, but unfortunately for them, consumers are becoming more and more, savvy to this.
